ADAMS, JOHN SAMUEL - Born on Jan. 22, 1870 in Wilkinson Co., Ga., son

of William and Charity Barbara Ann Sheppard Adams. Married on Jan. 20, 1895

to Lucia Augusta Stanley. Admitted to the Dublin Bar in 1893 by examination in

open court. Served as Mayor of Dublin. Appointed Judge of the City Court of

Dublin in 1900. Worked as an attorney in the Treasury Department in

Washington D.C., from 1933 to 1935. Served as a Referee in Bankruptcy until his

death on March 29, 1938.



ADAMS, WILEY HORRY - Born on June 19, 1885, son of Abilene Horry and

Elsie Jane Fordham Adams, married Martha Frances Atwater on Dec. 20, 1911.

CONNER, JAMES J. - Born at "The Dead River Settlement" in Montgomery

County, came to Dublin in 1867 to read law under the supervision of Jonathan

Rivers. He was admitted to the bar in 1871 and began his practice in Dublin.

Connor served as Solicitor General and as Mayor of Dublin from 1876 to 1877.

He moved to Cartersville in 1881 where he took up a second profession of

farming. State Representative from Bartow County from 1905-1907. Elected

Secretary of Agriculture of Georgia in 1912 and served until 1913.



COOK, JULIAN EUGENE - Born on April 12, 1905 in Wrightsville, Johnson

DUNCAN, JOHN THOMAS - Born in Talieffero County, Ga. on Dec. 7, 1830,

son of James Duncan and Nancy Lancaster. Died in 1891. Married 1st on July 3,

1854 to Sarah Amelia Fuqua. Married 2nd on Aug. 21, 1861 to Sarah Elizabeth

Stokes. Married 3rd to Nov. 27, 1875 to Nancy Stokes. Studied law and was

admitted to the bar around the age of twenty. He was the youngest Sheriff ever

elected in Laurens County. Served as Sheriff from 1854 to 1856 and from 1856 to

1860. State Representative, 1873-74. Judge of the Court of Ordinary, 1877 to

1891. Led the movement to build the first permanent bridge over the Oconee

River which was completed in the year of his death.

HAYNES, MERCER - Born on Feb. 21, 1845 in Chatam County, Georgia, son

of Zachariah Taylor and Maria Cooper Haynes. Began his study of the law in

Griffin in the office of Fred Dismuke. Served in Wheeler's Cavalry from 1862 to

1864. Taken prisoner and released in 1865. Married Rosamond Parmeter

Warren on April 9, 1867. Moved to Dublin in 1874 and admitted to the bar.

Member of the Baptist Church. Elected Mayor of Dublin in 1877 and served until

1880. Appointed postmaster of Dublin in 1880 and served until 1881. Judge of

County Court in 1885 appointed by Governor and former Confederate General,

John B. Gordon. Member of the Board of Education. He died on Sept. 11, 1901.

RIVERS, JONATHAN - Born in Wilkinson Co. on Aug. 11, 1831, son of Joel

in Irwinton before moving his practice to Dublin, where he practiced from from

1868 to 1873, when he moved to Hawkinsville. Justice of the Inferior Court of

County, 1864-1866. Elected Jr. 2nd Lt. of Co. F., 3rd Ga. Inf. on April 26, 1861.

Resigned on Nov. 22, 1861. Enlisted as a private in Co. A, 49th Ga. Inf. on March

4, 1862. Captured in 1862. Exchanged at Fort Warren in 1862. Elected Major of

the 49th Ga. Inf. on March 22, 1862. Took the sword of Gen. Phillip Kearney

after his death at Ox Hill. Wounded in the leg at Chancellorsville, Va. on May 3,

1863, necessitating amputation. Resigned due to disability on June 9, 1863.

TROUP, GEORGE MICHAEL - Born on September 7, 1780 in Alabama.

Graduated from Princeton University in 1797 and began his practice of law in

Savannah. Troup's legislative career began in 1801 at the age of twenty one

when he was elected to the Georgia Legislature to reprsent Chatham County. He

moved to Bryan County where he represented that county until 1806 when he

was elected to the Congress of the United States. During the War of 1812, Cong.

Troup served as Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee. After retiring from

Congress in 1815, Troup went back to Washington to serve in the Senate from

1816 to 1818. Elected Governor of Georgia in 1823 and 1825. Governor Troup

returned to the United States Senate in 1828. He declined another term due his

failing health. Gov. Troup, died on April 26, 1856. His body was interred at

Rosemont beside his brother, Robert. A granite monument, surrounded by a

handsome sandstone wall, marks his grave which is located west of Lothair in

Treutlen County.

WARREN, ELI - Born in Laurens County, Georgia, son Josiah and Nancy Doty

Warren, State Representative, Laurens County, 1824, 1827-9, 1831-1833. State

Senator, Laurens County, 1834. Brigadier General in the Georgia Militia. Had

one of the largest practices in the state during the peak of his career. Member of

two Constitutional Conventions.



WARREN, LOTT - Born in Burke County, Georgia on Oct. 30, 1797. Served in

the Georgia Militia during the Indian Wars of 1818. . Lt. Warren returned home

and study law under Daniel McNeel before being admitted to the bar in 1821. In

1824 Col. Warren represented Laurens County in the Legislature. In 1826

Warren served as the Solicitor General of the Southern Circuit from 1826 to 1828.

Warren then moved to Twiggs County representing that county in the Senate in

1830. In 1831 Col. Warren began a three year term as Judge of the Southern

Circuit. Judge Warren then moved to Americus. In 1838 he was elected to the

United States Congress. After serving two terms in Congress, Lott Warren

returned to private practice. Judge Warren returned to the bench serving as

Judge of the Southwestern Circuit from 1844 until his resignation in August of

1852. Married Jane Desableux. Judge Warren fell dead while making a speech in

the courthouse at Albany on June 17, 1861.
